Alcohol does not mix with lime water, ammonia does. Alcohol destroys egg. Alcohol does not dissolve alum. Alcohol and water don't mix. Ammonia and alum mix well. Ammonia and casein mix well. Ammonia and egg mix making no clumps but a thicker translucent egg that behaves well. Thalo Blue does not mix well in ammonia it turns gray, it dissolves in alcohol or egg. Thalo Blue mixes well in alcohol and egg/alum, store it wet in alcohol, dry it on the palette and paint secco in a 1:1 egg-yolk-in-water/alum/lime water medium. Fresco with lime water or casein. Thalo Green does not mix well in ammonia, it turns gray. Thalo Green mixes well in alcohol and egg/alum, store it wet in alcohol, dry it on the palette and paint in a 1:1- egg-yolk-in-water/alum/lime water medium. Thalo Red dissolves well in alcohol, ammonia and egg/alum, paint in, 1:1 egg yolk in water/alum/lime water, I'm storing it dry for now. Let the alcohol dry out of the paint you put out on your palette, grind it with your palette knife and add the medium, 1:1 egg yolk/water/alum/limewater or casein for secco. Casein or lime water for fresco. Quinacridone Magenta dissolves well in ammonia, paints well with egg yolk 1:1 in water/alum/lime water or casein. Casein or lime water for fresco. Alizarin Crimson dissolves in alcohol or ammonia, paint secco in egg yolk 1:1 in water/alum/lime water or casein. Casein or lime water for fresco. For Secco. After the wet pigment is alcohol dry, add a mixture of this media, 1:1 egg yolk in water, alum and lime water. Alum makes the egg waterproof. OR, this media Medium mix two parts, for secco murals, made fresh daily. I'm not sure if calcium carbonate will form over egg in fresco. 1. Egg yolk and water mixed 1:1, grind all your secco pigment in this. The yolk yellow color will disappear. 2. In your lime water add dry alum at 1% of the wet volume. Thin the secco paint to the right consistency with the lime water and alum mix. Casein mixed with alum expands the alum but doesn't dissolve it. Don't use them together. Casein and limewater strengthen the pigment bond like egg. Egg can't be painted over with new egg colors easily. Casein over casein works well. |
