When your painting massive foliage, simplify. As an example, when drawing a palm frond, four or five strokes will represent the direction of forty or fifty palm leaves. With these strokes in place painting in the palm leaves is only a matter of dusting off the drawing chalk and filling in the spaces. I paint the background sky in first, of course. This painting also shows how reflections of a vertical come toward you, they're not a continuing vertical. |
